Position Overview: To manage & design Telecommunications, Wireless & Electronic Security projects. This Design Manager will manage the design team, generate sales leads, prepare design-build estimates, provide value engineering solutions, and present solutions to Skyline’s target markets. The Design Manager will be responsible for securing contracts for Telecom, Wireless and Electronic Security Systems from Facility Managers of Commercial and Government Customers as well as Contractors. This position will work with the design team, customers, vendors, co-workers, and project managers.
Reports To: Sales and Operation Managers
Work Location: Skyline Communications office, occasional field work and job walks
Job Responsibilities:
- Manage project development activities for low voltage components and subsystems.
- Provide direction and coordination with the design team from Business Development, Quality, Program Management and Operation Management.
- Provide technical leadership through training and mentoring design engineers in the development of novel design techniques.
- Collaborate with the team to explore and develop low voltage architectures for RF
- Establish and maintain methodologies for RF design, layout, and verification to ensure first-time success of new designs.
- Help establish Engineering budgets for programs and projects and monitor/report resource performance against those budgets.
- Participate and support failure analysis with a focus on structured problem solving.
- Develop strategies to achieve maximum design effectiveness and minimize design cycle time.
- Design & Optimization of Wireless Networks for in-building radio coverage (DAS-Distributed Antenna Systems) for 5G, LTE, 4G, CBRS and other wireless radio networks
- Improvement of Cellular Infrastructure using FTTA, BBU Processing, RRH, CPRI protocol, C-RAN, Network Slicing, C/U Split, Network and Cell Virtualization, Fiber Front Haul
- Design Electronic security system and Telecommunications networks with optical fiber and Cat6 cable.
- Provide indoor & outdoor RF Plumbing Design Planning
- Perform RF measurements for networks
- Review prospective projects, summarize key points, bid strategy and projects for value engineering opportunities.
- Prepare material and labor estimates based on plans and specifications using competitive material quotes from vendors and select suppliers.
- Co-siting Technique, Edge Computing and Evaluating Datasheets of Cell-Site Components
- Provide consultative selling for private bid projects
Job Qualifications: MS in Electronics & Telecommunications, Master’s degree preferred. Must be from an accredited engineering college. 3+ years of related work experience is required.
Technical Skills: Understand design concept, material, and labor requirement to prepare budgets for the following types of systems
- iBwave RF Design
- Advanced testing & trouble shooting with OTDR, Anritsu, CommScope, Fluke
- RF measurements – RSRP, RSCP, PIM, Return Loss & VSWR
- Advanced level mathematics including algebraic topology, Fourier transforms & differential geometry
- AutoCAD
- Programming Languages – Python, MATLAB
- Electronic design theory
- Antenna Design, Massive MIMO
- Telecommunications cabling systems (Cat6, Fiber Optics, Coax)
- Access Control Systems
- CCTV Systems
- Audio Visual Systems
- Building Radio Systems
Computer Skills: Working knowledge of IBWave, AutoCAD, MS Excel, MS Word, Visio, and Bluebeam

Driving Requirements: Must have valid driver’s license and good driving record. Use of personal transportation for off-site customer visits will be reimbursed.
Travel Requirement: Occasional day trips for job walk-throughs. Able to spend up to a week away per year for travel to attend out of town conferences and training.
Work Time Commitment: Generally, work hours will be Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with the ability to work extended hours as required.
Term of Employment: 3-5 Years; Full time salary position
